Happy 4Th of July! “Red, white and blue”-my painting on stretched canvas: 6 x 6 inches. It was inspired by photos from my friend- photos of the flowers in vase . The sun light and shadows spoke to me and moved me.
We all love our pets. And pet’s portrait commission always is a great gift to someone you love, to your parents or grandparents; or for a good friend. The portrait in that post I painted from photographs and it was a surprise gift for a birthday of the spouse who owned and loved that cat. One of my previous commissions – Trompe l’Oeil mural on canvas for a private residence. On that photo I am with one of two halves of the center panels. There were 8 side panels also. The photo of completed mural and installation below. The challenge of that project was that all 8 sides of octagonal ceiling had very different. To resolve it I designed a center piece and 8 different side panels. Well, at the end when you look at installed ceiling you will not even notice that the designs are not exactly the same. I designed and painted that mural it in my studio as Trompe l’Oeil on canvas. After completion a professional crew under mu guidence installed 10 pieces onto client’s ceiling.
While exhibiting at Salon International show in Japan I was fortunate to watch presentation of Japanese traditional tea ceremony. There were several young girls with an older lady. And it was very beautiful and musical in a way. I took several photos of course for my memories. Later on, after a few years looking through the photos one of them inspired me to do that painting. I stylized the portrait to incorporate a little graphic technique to that . I do not paint in traditional Japanese graphic style but admire it a lot and was inspired by it in several of my paintings.
Trompe l’Oeil is French term and means “full the eye” , another words it is art style of creating illusions. It is one of my favorite styles of paintings. On that photo detail of one of my painting on canvas from a few years ago. You can see full painting here –>>
