Currently I am working on a portrait commission of two adorable children. No , they will not sit or stay still of course. First of all, I have to let you know that not all photos can be used as a reference photos for an artist, even the photos taken by professional photographer. Here I will give you just a few points to know – how to take good photos of your children which could be a base and reference for a great portrait.
- Do not take photos on rainy or cloudy days- the colors get washed off on those days.
- find a spot in your house with side light from the windows from one side. Side light is better than front light! Front light “washes off” the characters from the faces.
- If you outside – follow the same idea: its better when light is on one side of the face , not front light.
- Do not ask children to pose and stay still. Instead, ask them questions about something they like or love. And just take many photos while they are answering. People’s faces “lead up” from inside and become beautiful when they talk about something they love.
- take photos of them in different outfits and poses if you want.
- Make sure that you set your iPhone photos (in settings) to be the largest size available.
- Send many photos to the artist and let the artist suggest to you what photos could be the best as reference photos.
